Cops hunt for prison escapee

BY FABIAN LEDGISTER, Staff Reporter

A PRISON BREAK occurred at the Tamarind Farm Adult Correctional Centre, in Dunbeholden, St. Catherine, yesterday. Mark McKoy, 20, a low-risk offender hailing from Glendevon, St. James, eluded prison guards while on farm duties on the compound.

WORK PARTY

The Correctional Services Department reports that the inmate escaped about 1:30 p.m., while he was a member of a working party of 10-15 men at a nearby farm.

"All inmates are under constant surveillance, but low-risk offenders are allowed to work off the compound ... the prisoner escaped during that time," said a senior officer at the Correctional Services Department.

In response to the jail break, the Spanish Town police have begun an intense search and recover strategy to recapture the escapee.

SHOPBREAKING

McKoy entered incar-ceration on August 24, 2005, for shopbreaking and larceny, and was given a sentence of two years. He had served seven months prior to his escape.

He is 5 feet, 3 inches in height, medium built, with a scar over his right eye. He was last wearing a short khaki pants, and a white T-shirt.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of McKoy can contact the Spanish Town police at 984-2874, the police emergency lines at 119, or the nearest police station.
