SOME OF THE names of the members of the group Morgan Heritage are, shall we say, unique, and you must be curious about their meaning.
Lukes says his real name is Nakhamyah, which is Hebrew for 'Comfort of God.' The nickname 'Lukes', however, was given to him when he was a child. "I don't mind when people call me 'Lukes' because it is easier for people to pronounce," he says.
BEEN BLESSED
His sister Una shared the story behind her name. This first lady of Morgan Heritage's name suits her well: "It was my grandmother's name - she passed away last year, God rest her soul - and I have been blessed to carry on her name. I really feel blessed to have that name. The name also means number one in Latin," she says.
Gramps, whose real name is Roy, got his name from his aunt when he was born. "Well I got my name from Auntie Gracie, that is my father's sister. When I was born she came to the hospital and when she saw me, she was like, 'lawd, him look like Gramps eeh?' That was my father's grandfather, my great-grandfather."
Though he goes by his correct name, Peter also has a nickname, 'Jah Petes'. "There is no special reason. Is just a vibes one day a man get and the name stick," he said.
Last, but not least, is Mr. Mojo, and no, he didn't get his name from the Austin Powers movie. "It was a nickname given to me by my brother one day when he was watching TV. Something happened on TV and it reminded him of me, but really the name has to do with the Mojo bag which is a voodoo bag. So my name is more of a mystical thing."
