What do you want in a lover?

'S PEOPLE POLL

WE'VE ALL HEARD the many theories about what men and women look for in partners. What qualities should the ideal mate possess? Does he have to be rich? Must she be able to cook? We wanted to get all the dirt, so we asked:

If you had to choose between having a long-term relationship with someone who was good looking, or someone who was smart, or someone who was rich, or good in bed, which one would you choose? This is what we found out:

Good looking 3%

Smart 68%

Rich 15%

Good in bed 8%

Don't know 5%

Based on these results, it seems that the majority of people are interested in persons who are smart. The next most sought after trait is wealth, with 15 per cent of those polled saying they wanted a wealthy partner. Seventeen per cent of the women polled wanted a wealthy man, but a whopping 70 per cent say they wanted men who are smart.

What is very striking is that only three per cent of the people polled said they would choose someone with good looks. Also of note is that only eight per cent said they would choose people that are good in bed. This is strange as performance in bed usually has the potential to make or break a relationship. How, then, can only eight per cent say they would choose someone who is good in bed?
