ARTISTE PETER METRO will be singing freely as the judge granted his lawyer's request not to record a conviction against him as it would restrict his travel and by extension his career.
Peter Metro, whose correct name is Peter Clarke, was charged with forgery, uttering forged documents and conspiracy when he attempted to update a British passport under someone else's name.
Clarke was travelling on the passport approximately eight years and needed to upgrade it to a machine readable version when he was caught.
The 46-year-old was arrested and charged and first appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on March 24 when Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle ordered that a probation report be done on him. There was a no order made for the conspiracy charge and he was granted $50,000 bail with one or two sureties.
When he appeared yesterday he was sentenced to pay $30,000 or six months imprisonment for forgery and $20,000 or six months imprisonment for uttering forged documents. There will be no conviction recorded against him.
"You are most generous your honour," his lawyer said.
