THE SPANISH TOWN Hospital may soon benefit from an upgrading project.
Work at the hospital is expected to be done on the Accident and Emergency wing, an additional walkway is to be added and a new medical records building will be constructed. The work is expected to help the hospital to better accommodate residents as well as to make the hospital better able to handle cases that may come about during World Cup Cricket in 2007.
Since the Chedwin Park Cricket complex in St.Catherine will be a training centre, it is expected that the hospital will be called on to provide support services. The project will be carried out over a six month period and will reportedly cost $58 million. The first phase of the repairs will be the renovation of the Accident and Emergency Wing.
It is hoped that the renovations will have a significant impact on the service offered by the hospital and will improve the institution's record keeping capabilities, thus making the Accident and Emergency wing more efficient.
