The smiles on the faces of proud parents Carl and Patricia Wilkins told the story of a special day in the young couple's life.
They were watching as their first child, three-month-old Carlissia was dedicated to God at the Emmanuel Apostolic Church in Naggo Head, Portmore, St. Catherine on April 23.
Baby Carlissia was one of seven infants that were blessed on the day by Bishop Everton Thomas, head pastor of the host church.
JOY CHILD
The young couple lives with their 'joy child' in Longville, Clarendon, but took the journey to Portmore on the advice of friends who attend the church.
Carlissia's father said the day was special for him and his family.
"It's exciting to know that I bring her to the Lord from an early age," he said.
His wife of four years was also excited, and said that it was a truly blessed day.
Shawn Burton, Carl's friend from high school, who is also Carlissia's God father, had mixed feelings about the occasion. "I will be there for her (Carlissia). "I'll act in a supporting role," he said adding he was Carl's best man when he got married, and hopes that Carl would do the same for him when he has his first child. He was happy for Carlissia's big moment but was expecting more from the christening.
"I was expecting more from the christening service. There was no mention of the godfather or godmother. I think because it was rushed that's why some protocols were not observed," Burton suggested.
Carl is a store manager, while his wife Patricia does marketing. She now puts her career on hold for her baby girl as she stays home and cares for her during the early years.
Carl said the child's grand-mother, who was not present, wanted the infant to be blessed before she migrated and they obliged.
