Soca Warriors win 3-2

BAD RADKERSBURG, AUSTRIA, CMC

FORWARDS STERN JOHN and Jason Scotland pumped in first-half goals and vaulted Trinidad and Tobago to a 3-2 win over FK Austria Vienna in a World Cup warm-up match on Tuesday.

It was the beginning of match preparations for the World Cup-bound T&T Soca Warriors since they arrived in Europe.

About 900 fans watched the training match at Thermen Arena where the T&T Soca Warriors conceded two second-half goals.

John went close with a few early chances and eventually scored in the 25th minute after defender Dennis Lawrence redirected Chris Birchall's corner kick into his path.

Scotland connected two minutes later on a left-footed shot off the far post after collecting a cross on the right from Carlos Edwards in a play that was initiated by captain Dwight Yorke.

T&T coach Leo Beenhakker made eight second-half changes and Andreas Walzer capitalized on a mistake by Yorke to pull FK Austria Vienna within a goal in the 78th.

Substitute Kenwyne Jones also scored with a powerful header on an Evans Wise cross, giving the Soca Warriors a 3-1 lead in the 82nd minute.

Rubin Okotie converted a penalty in the 90th minute after being fouled by David Atiba Charles.

The match was the first for the Caribbean side since arriving in Europe. T&T have exhibition games against Wales, Slovenia and the Czech Republic before facing Sweden in their World Cup opener on June 10.
