... then there were five

WITH JUST ONE week left in the MiPhone Dancing Dynamites competition, the five duos remaining in the competition were under pressure to put on their best performance in the semi-finals which took place at Television Jamaica Lyndhurst Road, St. Andrew, studio on Saturday.

There was added pressure as they tried to impress Entertainment Minister, Aloun Assamba and recording group T.O.K., who made an appearance on the set.

Electricity was in the air as the audience had already prepared themselves for what promised to be nothing less than awesome. Guest group, Kadillac Dancers, had displayed exuberance and now the onus was on the contestants to bring it.

The Goofy Brothers were given the chance to open the much-anticipated performances with spunk jazz but lacked the spunk that characterises the genre. Judge Orville Hall thought the moves were not syncopated enough to make it work. And though Neila Ebanks thought it was a good effort, she and Hall were in unison with a score of five each.

The rivalry between Vibes Ihatas and Shady Squad has intensified even further. The ladies of Vibes Ihatas commanded the most votes last week to finish on top. "I told you we would be back on top. And we have to thank those who voted for us." But this week was a bitter-sweet one for the duo as they failed to wow the audience and the judges. Guest judge Kenneth 'KC' Casey referred to their performance as a "shady" one. He said the dance had no form but could have been concealed with a theme. They got a combined score of 15.

The forecast for Bad Weather is now too predictable. The judges said they were no longer being surprised by the team. However, they still managed to outscore Vibes Ihatas by five points.

Shady Squad also had 20 points after a crowded choreography to Marvia Providence Hear My Cry Oh Lord. But it was G Squad that stole the night; they came dressed and rehearsed for a hip hop performance that would send the studio audience into a frenzy.

The judges said it proved that the duo have been listening to their advice. Ebanks, whose points card seemed to stop at single digits, revealed her nine points while KC 'sounded di big ting'. Hall also bellowed his catch phrase, 'sound di big ting' after warning KC.

T.O.K. ended the show with their song Bounce. Fans flocked the stars after they were engaged in a short but welcome treat.

At the finale next week, the four finalists will dance twice. They will be given theme songs from movies to rehearse but then they will had to free-style to a song they will hear only when it is time to perform.

The winning group will dance in T.O.K.'s music video for Freeze.

The Kadillac Dancers made a special appearance on the show.
