Senior pleads guilty for ganja possession

BY RASBERT TURNER, STAR Writer

SPANISH TOWN

A 75-YEAR-OLD senior citizen pleaded guilty to possession and dealing in ganja in the Spanish Town RM Court last Tuesday and was fined $4,800. He is Ronald Anderson of Crescent District, St. Catherine.

The police told the Court that on May 24, a police party went on an operation in the Crescent area. A house, occupied by Anderson and his spouse Barbara Hall, was searched and a black scandal bag containing ganja weighing 450 grams (one pound), was found in a room on the top of a dresser. Both Hall and Anderson were charged by the police with possession of and dealing in ganja.

However, when the case came up for mention, the Crown withdrew the case against Ms Hall. Clerk of the Court Pearnel Charles Jnr. informed the court that since Anderson admitted to being the owner of the drug, the case will be dropped against Hall.

Anderson was subsequently fined $1600 for possession or 10 days and $3200 for dealing or 10 days.

He told the RM "But Your Honour a neva one full pound, a jus three quarter pound". This caused laughter in the court. The RM told him to pay the fine and warned Hall not to get involved in drugs.
