A FRONT PAGE story in yesterday's Gleaner spoke about the achievements of one young man who had decided not to wait on opportunities to come to him.
The young man, Oral Daley, a 22 -year-old from a tiny community called Snail Pace in St. Mary proved that with education and ambition, you can achieve many things.
According to the story, Daley graduated from the College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE) and did not sit home and wait for a job opportunity.
He has instead joined with three friends and formed a landscaping company, which provides consultancy services for farmers with the hope of providing landscaping services to hotels and also to sell plants.
It is definitely commendable that these young men are creating opportunities for themselves and others by using their initiative.
There definitely needs to be more young people like this, who are becoming leaders instead of waiting to be followers.
So often we hear young people complain about the lack of jobs, or educational opportunities, but not many persons are utilising the ones they have received.
Daley had resilience and determination to make it work and nowadays the society needs are a few more persons like him. His entrepreneurial spirit is a lesson for others to do likewise.
It also provides an even greater lesson for us about life. There are possibilities everywhere but you cannot wait for them to happen to you, you need to go out, seek and you will find.
