Father cries for help with children

LEROY HALL WANTS help for his three children and himself to start their lives all over again.

Hall's life was shattered last year after gunmen invaded his yard, shot and killed the mother of his children and then burnt the house with all his possessions forcing him to stay with friends in another community. Only one of his three children whose ages are 12, nine and four years old have been attending school regularly since then.

"From it happen mi pickney dem hardly go school 'cause mi nuh have no money or nutten fi sen dem back 'cause a pure part-time work mi a get an' as mi get likkle money so mi haffi tek it gi dem," said Hall.

Hall said the incident happened last year during a gang war in his community. The father of three said he and his family were accused of harbouring gunmen from another area because his yard was located along a path which men from both sides used as an escape route. He said he knew nothing of what was going on but was blamed because the don from one side lost a relative in the conflict.

"Dem know seh mi is a man weh go out an' come in an' mi never deh trouble nobody but dem still dweet and all seh we did link to one order(gang) but nutten nuh go so," he said.

The father of three said that since then his oldest son has not gone to school because he is unable to have him registered.

"When mi carry him go waan school dem seh dem caan tek him because dem nuh waan nobody come shoot up di compound," Hall said.

CRY FOR NORMAL LIFE

Hall said his children's failure to attend school has left him and them crying on many occasions. He said his oldest son is the most affected as he wants to live a normal life once again.

"Him bawl nuff time an' tell mi seh him waan come home because him nuh live wid mi because mi caan keep him or none a dem. Him tell mi seh him waan start go school again but mi caan do nutten but cry cause mi nuh have no money at all," he said.

Hall has tried to help himself also. He said he went to the National Insurance Scheme(NIS) office for help but needs a TRN, birth certificate and an ID to get assistance. He said all his documents and those of his children were destroyed in the fire.

The Spanish Town Police have confirmed the incident and said one man was charged in connection with the crime.

"A jus wha day yah mi get back mi ID. But mi pickney dem age paper an' all my tings dem did burn up so mi caan even get nuh help from deh so," he said.

Hall wants help for his children especially because he said he wants them to attend school and the only way this can happen is if he gets back on his feet.
