THE QUIET COMMUNITY of Brumalia Gardens in Manchester was in turmoil Wednesday night after gunshots rang out about 10.30 p.m. signalling that something had gone terrible wrong.
When residents investigated, they found one of their neighbour, Mrs. Ava Quallio, bleeding from a gunshot wound inflicted by her husband, Roger, who was found in the couple's bedroom bleeding profusely with what appeared be a gunshot wound.
DISPUTE OVER DOCUMENTS
A very distraught elderly relative, who was at the house at the time of the incident, said the couple had a dispute pertaining to the signing of some documents. According to the relative, who asked not to be identified, Mrs. Quallio refused to sign the documents at which time her husband who became infuriated pulled his firearm and shot her. He them turned the firearm on himself.
A policeman who lives nearby said he heard three explosions coming from the premises at which time he called for assistance. Mrs. Quallio was an employee of Alpart in Nain, St Elizabeth, and is well known for her activities with students from across the region.
Alpart's communication manager, Mr. Lance Neita and general manager, Mr. Darrel Harriman, as well a number of other co-workers and neighbours, who visited the home, were all in shock.
Mr. Quallio operated one of the regions busiest Total service stations on the Winston Jones Highway. In the meantime, his wife is in stable condition in hospital according to personnel at the Mandeville Regional Hospital.
