Elvis Tulloch of Montego Hills, near Norwood in St James, appeared in the St Elizabeth Circuit Court, on Wednesday, before Justice Lennox Campbell.
He was charged with robbery with aggravation, illegal possession of firearm and shooting with intent and was granted $50,000 bail with surety and should report to the Mount Salem Police Station, three times per week.
In a bail application, his attorney, Oswald James, said his client was not pointed out on three significant identification parades, but was charged by the police.
Allegations say on April 5, two men drove to Lyn's Service Station at Tomb Stone in Lacovia where they ordered $2000 petrol.
When the attendant asked them for the money, they pointed a gun at him and told him, it was complimentary.
The police was summoned and a chase and subsequent shoot ensued. Following this, Tulloch was held and his companion Deno Anderson, who escaped from the car, was chased and held by citizens, who stabbed and chopped him to death.
Investigations revealed that the licence plate that was originally on the car while the police was chasing them, was taken off and hidden in the car trunk.
Tulloch is scheduled to return to the next sitting of the circuit court, which begins on November 20.
