Simpson on a four-timer

BY JIMMIE, STAR Racing Writer

TREVOR SIMPSON LOOKS ready to put up another fight for the jockey's title he narrowly lost to Trinidadian Brian Harding, last season.

Harding on Wednesday pulled level with absent Simpson atop the standings on 38 winners after booting home a double, MASANIELLO in the second and CARIBBEAN MINISTER in the eighth.

However, Simpson, a five-time champion who rode 100 winners, but fell nine winners short of beating Harding last season, could respond with a four-timer on tomorrow's 10-race card -DESIRES OF THE SEA in the first, RAMADA in the second, JET BLASTER in the fourth and MAMA'S GIRL in the 10th.

Simpson should get off to a bullet start by winning the first two races. DESIRES OF THE SEA was outclassed by TOUCHDOWN last Saturday but still had OUT OF THE BLUE behind at 1400 metres even though losing second at the wire to MAKE THEM LAFF.

Going a furlong shorter with Simpson in the irons, DESIRES OF THE SEA won't be caught.

RAMADA should benefit from Simpson's more bustling riding style. Lightweight jockey Wesley Henry got the filly rolling too late in her one and a half-length loss at a mile to LAW LORD two Wednesdays ago.

Harding-ridden STREET FIGHTER is bound to be highly fancied but has been sparingly trained since finishing down the track on May 23. Trainer Anthony Nunes has removed the blinkers but STREET FIGHTER's lack of pace, exactly why he was fitted with head gear in the first place, will return to haunt him.

JACKPOTS AT $1.5M

There were no real upsets on Wednesday's programme but losing bankers PURE JUSTICE and BANJUHAR took out all but one bettor, who went home $1m richer.

As expected, the Super-6 was nabbed, yielding eight winning tickets each worth $91,284. The Pick-9 returns at its $1m guarantee and the Super-6 is back at its $500,000 minimum payout and bettors should consider using JET BLASTER and MAMA'S GIRL as bankers.

Unbeaten in two starts, JET BLASTER tackles the round course for the first time but has impressed at exercise, galloping five furlongs in 1:01.1 and shouldn't be beaten despite the presence of speedy PRINCESS SUE and the American-bred pair of AZULI and PYRITE TONIGHT.

MAMA'S GIRL should win the 10th event at good odds. She stayed on really strong at 1400 metres on May 27 when beating MEDICAL ACCOUNT and PATAS DE FUEGO. Although going a furlong longer, MAMA'S GIRL, who has been busy in the equine pool, should again steal a march on rivals and hang tough in the stretch run.

Close all bets with ELECTRO SMART, who won't be caught in the sixth at 1000 metres round, and JACK DE PRINCE has trained like a machine for the 1400-metre ninth race.
