Teachers are polished diamonds

ANTHONY MINOT - Independence City Primary students perform an item for their teachers during a recent teachers function at the school.

MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER MIL-VERTON Smith, managing director of Turbo Life, says teachers are polished diamonds.

Smith, speaking recently at a teachers function at Portmore's Independence City Primary, says the school name Independence, means being self-reliant and signals excellence. He said excellence is a process and not something we achieve in points. He charged the teachers to initiate change in their environment.

"I want you to see yourself as an agent of change in Portmore," he said, stressing the school's teachers should strive to make the institution the best in the Sunshine City.

Meanwhile teachers were fêted by the school's Parent Teachers' Association with gourmet food and fruit juice tickling their taste buds and the female teachers were serenaded by singing maestro Peter Carter, a cabaret singer. His three selections Wind beneath my wings, Through the years and an old time favourite My Girl, went over well with the ladies of the evening.

The event was also blessed by the emotional dancing presentation by the school's dance troupe as they spun and twirled to Behold the Lamb. The choral-speaking group had the audience in stitches with their cultural item.

Teachers were given certificates for their efforts.
