Man accused of robbing tourist appears in court

A MAN WHO is accused of robbing an American tourist while she stood along Knutsford Boulevard on June 21, appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Clifton Minto, of a Greenwich Park address, is accused of robbing the woman of $4600. The court heard that on June 21, at about 2:30 p.m., the complainant, who is vacationing in Jamaica, was standing by the side of the road when the accused approached her and begged a cigarette. As she was about to give him, he reportedly grabbed her purse, containing the money and her driver's license, and ran away.

The complainant made an alarm and began chasing Minto. Police officers who were close by came to her assistance. Minto was chased and held on Barbados Avenue and the purse was retrieved. When cautioned by police officers Minto reportedly told them : "A pick mi pick it up offa di ground."

He told RM Georgianna Frazer that he was leaving the island soon and a new date was set.
