A STORY IN Monday'sGleaner spoke about the death of two men in an accident along Hope Road on Saturday.
According to the story, the accident occurred when the driver of one of the vehicles lost control and crossed the median and fell on top of the other vehicle which was travelling in the opposite direction.
This story certainly highlights, once again, the need for our drivers to be more careful on the roads. Once one receives a driver's licence it is a serious responsibility that should be treated as such. This means that once you are on the roads, you need to be cautious about the other users and pedestrians.
These two drivers had dreams that would have been realised if they had been more careful on the road. One has left a three- day-old baby and a wife and missed out on completing his doctoral degree. The other driver too missed out on completing his education and benefiting from all the possible opportunities that would have come to him during his lifetime.
It is worrying that despite police pleas and the continued number of deaths on the roads, persons continue to disobey the road code and drive recklessly.
Drivers need to recognise that safety on the road is extremely important. As the advertisement says, the life you save could be your own. So, do not drive recklessly, just be careful and considerate on the roads.
