Bet on Ransom Man

BY JIMMIE, Star Writer

JAMAICA DERBY WINNER RANSOM MAN should easily add the St. Leger title to his résumé tomorrow afternoon at Caymanas Park.

The late-blooming gelding, who romped home by a little over nine lengths in the 2400-metre Derby, has nothing to fear from his eight rivals going two furlongs shorter and has looked best of the lot at exercise.

Champion jockey Brian Harding will again partner the big gelding, who shot to prominence by finishing second at long odds with Larris Allen in the May 13 Lotto Classic for the Governor's Cup.

Governor's Cup winner ALLIEDFORCE continues to look ordinary at exercise and Guineas victor RAMPAGE still appears way past his best in the mornings.

HIDALGO, who ran a brave race in the Derby, finishing second after prompting the pace for most of the way, has too many lengths to make - up on RANSOM MAN but should again chase home the Eraldo Fullerton-trained runner.

JACKPOTS AT $1.7 MILLION

Despite the presence of top-flight jockeys - ALPHA LUPA, with Brian Harding, and SIR CHA CHA BABA, partnered by Paul Francis struck in the final two races on Saturday at odds of 15-1 and 8-1 respectively, crashing all Pick-9 and Super-6 bets.

In addition to the $764,364 Super-6 carryover, the Pick-9 has a $1million carryover, which starts at the 1700-metre second race.

TOUCHDOWN, a runaway winner among Maidens on June 17, will bid to repeat up in class in the second race among four-year-olds, non-winners-of-two races.

The Rowan Mathie-trained runner won in a speedy 1:27.4 at 1400 metres and should get all Pick-9 players off to a rollicking start with Oneil Mullings aboard.

HIGH GRADE also appears to be a banker in the fourth at 1400 metres. The four-year-old colt went up in class two Wednesdays ago and ran a big race among non-winners-of-four, finishing an even fifth, less than seven lengths off DIAMOND EXPRESS at 1800 metres.

Back among non-winners-of-three, HIGH GRADE's late kick will prove hard to withstand inside the final furlong.

Pick-9 players can also look to Wayne DaCosta's SUPER NATURAL as a sound mid-programme banker in the fifth at 1100 metres following his battling second behind imported HOUDINI AGAIN at 1200 metres.

Running for the second time this year, off a three-month lay-up, SUPER NATURAL was far from disgraced in a fast 1:12.4.

Track Price Plus Pick-6 players should seal all bets with Richard Azan's two-year-old, TOOT DI HOOT in the opening event at 800 metres straight and EXPLOSIVE PEAK, even if she gives away a couple lengths at the start, should outclass Overnight Allowance horses in the ninth at 1100 metres.
