The Twins apologise

Twin of Twins - FILE

THE FOLLOWING IS a letter from the dancehall comedic duo, Twins of Twins that was submitted to THE STAR this weekend. Controversy had surrounded their performance at the recently-held Bling Dawg Summerjam in Portland.

To our fans:

We are using this forum to clear up some misconceptions and get out the true facts surrounding the Bling Dawg show and the controversy regarding Beenie Man. We are doing this out of respect to our fans, fellow artistes, promoters and to those who love dancehall music. We are not trying to change any minds, as a lot of those who hate us, have always hated us, and are just using this as an opportunity to express it further and blow it out of proportion.

1) We did not disrespect the entire crowd at Bling's show; our comments were specifically directed at those who had disrupted our performance which was just a small segment of the entire crowd.

2) We did in fact make a public apology via various media outlets to the people in attendance, Bling Dawg and the sponsors. However, these for the most part have been edited and cut out of most publications to suit the negative nature and fuel the fire of the whole argument.

3) The conflict between us and Beenie is not about us joining the Alliance and Bounty's war, but rather retaliation based on factual and documented attacks against us that were initiated by Beenie Man. See THE STAR dated April 13. "Beenie Coughs Up Threats Against Twin of Twins" and the May 12 edition "A Beenie Problem."

REAL FACTS

4) We have been releasing our Stir it Up CDs for many years starting with Volume 1 in 1995. Since the first series, we have been consistent in expressing our views and opinions regarding artistes and the dancehall fraternity. These views are based on actual events, comments, and real-life situations; we never just make up things. It was not until we started getting some popularity that the same artistes, who used to admire our work, are now offended by it, and we know this feeling of ill-will is just based on jealousy and envy. We will continue to do our work and produce our CDs in the same unbiased manner as we always have, and we will use this situation to learn, grow and become stronger.

5) Any Jamaican or human being that says they haven't lost their temper or said something that they did not mean is a liar and hypocrite. Once again, to those who are used to us expressing our thoughts under the banner of being very intelligent, we lost our temper and we apologise to Bling Dawg, the sponsors and most importantly our fans.
