... mourners dress soberly for funeral

Left: This woman was one of the few fashionable persons who attended the funeral of Christine Hewitt at the Holy Trinity Cathedral on Saturday.   Right: Former Dancehall Queen Carlene at the service of Christine Hewitt.

THE 'BLING BLING' and the x-rated fashions which have come to be popular at the funerals of many music industry personalities were missing at the service for Christine Hewitt.

There were a few 'bare backs' and flashy hairstyles at the service which was held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral on George Headley Drive on Saturday afternoon. Jeans pants were popular for both males and females while others who preferred a more formal approach wore African print outfits, Chinese dresses and gowns. Other women wore Capri pants complimented with hats and matching sunglasses.

Most of the mourners who attended came dressed in colourful clothing as was requested by the family who said the ceremony would reflect the flamboyant Hewitt the public knew.

Popular personalities such as Carlene, former Dancehall Queen, was stylish in a dark green pants suit. Lady G another popular female dancehall artiste who attended wore a jeans dress with a cut in the back. This was complimented with a small jeans jacket.

The celebratory mood was created with Hewitt being carried in an extravagant glass casket decorated with floral designs and scenes of nature. The church was also decorated with bright red, yellow and white balloons but while all these were bright, the fashions were just normal.

A number of persons turned out to pay their final respects to Hewitt. Her body had been found in a burnt-out mini-van along the Mount Industry main road in St. Catherine on June 29.
