Janice Tomlinson, the mother of Shanika Shakes, is grateful to the community of Town Head for the support they have given her since her daughter died last year.
Shakes, eight and her friend Shauna-Kay Legister, nine, were found dead in a cane field on June 30 last year. The girls were found after they went to deliver a dress for a graduation ceremony. When the girls failed to come home, a search was launched and thereafter the bodies were found.
Since then, Tomlinson said the community has supported both mothers as they want the matter to be closed as well.
"Sometimes if dem hear any funny move dem we come tell mi," she said.
Tomlinson said both herself and Legister's mother, Shernette Clarke have benefited from the community support because even at the week of activities recently to remember the two girls, people turned out to give them support.
"Some of them were even crying and they really felt it because before di girl dem dead nutten much neva really happen," she said.
She added that they have also supported the police in whatever way possible.
"A nuh jus we waan it fi close, a di whole area because it still hard fi know seh a could a one a wi from di area do dat," she said.
