Trial match for Trelawny stadium

BY RICHARD MORAIS, STAR Writer

FALMOUTH , TRELAWNY

A CRICKET TRIAL match is scheduled to be played at the Trelawny Multipurpose Stadium by the end of the month to asses the pitch.

This was revealed by Local Organising Committee (LOC) venue development manager, Christopher Smith, at the accreditation briefing held at the Starfish Resort in Trelawny on Monday.

He said, however, that this will not be open to the media as he wants to avoid any negative press if the wicket does not play well.

He also noted that by the middle of August there will be a full game where the press will be invited.

The multipurpose stadium will host the opening ceremony of the 2007 International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup (CWC) on March 11.

Stakeholders, including health and security personnel, were apprised of the planned procedures and requirements for access to a CWC venue during the tournament at the accreditation briefing on Monday.

The occasion was also used to give a general update on the LOC's plans and information related to the tournament's staging in Trelawny.
