Phillip Boothe, the policeman arrested for ganja possession on Sunday was granted $1.5 million bail with one or two sureties when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
Boothe, 29, was arrested after 29.5 kgs of marijuana were alleged to have been found in the trunk of his Toyota Corolla motor car.
Boothe who is stationed at the Lionel Town Police Station, was charged with possession, dealing in and trafficking marijuana. It is alleged that on Sunday at approximately 9:30 p.m. he was stopped by a mobile patrol in the vicinity of the Horizon Remand Centre, Spanish Town road, Kingston. The officer conducting the check, identified himself and said that he could smell marijuana in the car.
Boothe informed the police that he was a fellow officer and took the keys from the ignition and opened the trunk where it is alleged that three black plastic bags with the drugs were found.
As a condition for his bail he is to report to the Porus Police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. He is also required to surrender his travel documents. Boothe will return to court on September 1.
