Beenie Man - File
port-of-spain trinidad express:
Jamaican dancehall star Beenie Man was forced to bring his performance to a halt when a fight started in the crowd during his concert appearance at Club Zen, Port-of-Spain, on August 2.
Beenie Man stopped briefly during his performance of his smash hit-single King of the Dancehall, when all eyes in the crowd turned towards an ongoing scuffle between a group of men on the balcony of the VIP section of the club.
An unidentified man then came charging down the steps to the VIP lounge and dived head-first into the thick sell-out crowd, in an attempt to evade a chasing group of men, one of whom held a bloody shirt against his forehead.
"What you trying to do, distract me and mess up my performance? Don't let me have to come out there," Beenie Man said before changing tempo to sing his latest chart topper Hum Hum.
The large group of fans gathered stage-side seemed to quickly forget about the incident and resumed partying, while the club's security escorted the men outside.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the scuffle started after a robbery incident in the toilets. The victim reportedly gathered a group of male friends to search for the alleged robber and attacked him upon sighting.
A joint patrol of police and regiment was seen outside the club following the concert.
Contacted for comment on the incident by telephone on August 4, club owner Johnny Soong said, "I don't know what started the incident, I mean, people say all sorts of thing but I do know the men were ejected and arrested by the police."
Soong said the policy of the club is to eject anyone who threatens the safety of the other patrons.
"We're not concerned with the reason behind any fight. Our policy is you fight, we eject you and allow the police to deal further with the matter," he said.
