Bull Bay's most wanted killed

By Fabian Ledgister, Staff reporter

The Bull Bay police killed the most wanted criminal in their division in a dramatic shoot-out on Tuesday.

Robert 'Bobby' Main, the leader of one of the area's most notorious gangs was shot and killed by police. He was wanted for several murders and shootings in the area, and was the head of the Robert Main gang, whose members have also been implicated in recent shootings and murders.

Acting suspiciously

Reports are that at about 4:20 p.m., the police were conducting a search along Gypsum road in 9 Miles, Bull Bay, when four men were spotted acting suspiciously. The police party approached the men, who allegedly ran and opened fire on the lawmen.

The officers returned fire and in the aftermath of the gunbattle, Main and another unknown assailant were shot and injured.

Another man identified by the police to be 'Squeezie-Eye' , another gang member , escaped in the area. The injured men were taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Two 9mm pistols, one with a serial number BT111, and the other with an erased number, were recovered, as well as 26 live rounds.

Deadly gratitude

The Bull Bay police say that since the incident, many persons have called the station expressing their gratitude to the officers for getting rid of the men.

"We have received a lot of calls from residents, saying thanks for Main's removal, because they can now breathe a sigh of relief ... These other men will be caught, and if they have children they should consider the repercussions of their criminal life," said Constable Oral Clarke of the Bull Bay police station.

It is believed that the two other men may have also been shot, and up to press time yesterday, police were in the area looking for the men's bodies.
