Sketel vs diva

Michael Findlay , Star Writer

It has been said that what a man thinketh so is he. This adage can be applied to women in the category of diva or sketel.

Sometime ago I wrote an article discussing the three types of women. I narrowed it down to the idealist, the virtuous and the sketel. But after some thought, it has become necessary to fine tune the definitions and narrow the classification to either diva, which encompasses the idealist and the virtuous, and enlarge the category of sketel.

Recently, the comedic duo of Ity and Fancy Cat had a 10 point assessment of who comprises a sketel. I tested this assessment with a number of women from different ages, background and so called 'classes of society'. What I noticed was that they gave the right answers to eliminate themselves from being a sketel, but confessed later that they were not being truly honest. What this proves is that a sketel can come from any class or category in which we throw labels.

In my last article, I stressed that the sketel is both physical and mental in their outlook. They dress to impress, wearing tight and skimpy outfits. They show off their physical attributes, such as belly, bosom, and buttocks. They wear tattoos, chains and outlandish hair styles of all the imaginary colours. But as I said sometime ago, it is their mental state that really defines them. They are loud, cantankerous and aggressive.

They have a 'cass cass' mentality and have a lot of unfriendly rivals who they parlay in public. Sketels do not work. They make men work for them, collecting paycheques from all and sundry.

Look at the diva in reverse. She is the ideal in womanhood. She is loved, respected and looked upon as a lady of class. The attributes given to the entertainment classification of a diva as being classy, sophisticated and blessed with talent, is a good description of all divas, whether in the music business or daily and regular occurrence.

As I said earlier, it's how you think that makes what you are. The diva has a special kind of mentality. They stay clear of the lumpen in society - those who live a life of quarrels and enmity. They are elevated in thought. They have no time for unsociable behaviour and they are respected and admired in their communities.

You may ask, why bring up a subject that has been exhausted. But my point is that the comparisons will never die and the debate will continue. Why do people behave the way they do and why do women always bring out such emotion when they are spoken about in society?

The sketel will always be with us. They have existed and coincided with the diva from time immemorial. But the transition process will also be with us. As women mature they tend to have a different type of mentality, so being a sketel does not bar one from moving into the ranks of a diva. They say variety is the spice of life and so we have these array of women living in an unholy alliance. Only time will tell the outcome.
