Sisters joined by a special bond - Marie and Marvette Cole joined from birth

Marie and Marvette Cole

There has been a special bond between twin sisters Marie and Marvette Cole ever since they were conceived in their mother's womb more than 30 years ago.

The twins who both reside in separate homes in the Gregory Park area, admitted in a recent interview that they don't go anywhere without the other being there and they consult each other before making decisions in life.

Marie said she has an undying love for Marvette as apart from being her sister, she is there as a friend. "It's my sister and I love her because I can tell her anything and she keeps it as a secret, she's normally there for me," Marie said.

Marie said that Marvette is outgoing, outspoken and everything in one.

Marie adds that she is in the food field because she loves food and one day she hopes to open a food business.

Marie's favourite food is ackee and saltfish with dumpling and banana, while Marvette appreciates a variety of dishes including ackee and rice and peas and chicken. She is described as the chef in the family.

On the matter of colour, Marie loves white and Marvette prefers blue, but they mainly wear the same type of clothing.

The twins grew up in Jones Town with mom Carmen Smith and father Franklyn Cole. Marie attended St Annie's High School while Marvette attended Kingston Senior in 1980's but that didn't break the bond the sisters' still share.

Sticking together

Marie said what makes their relationship special is that they 'stick' to each other. "We tell each other things that are happening in our lives," Marie said.

The siblings are from a family of twins. Marvette said she has a set of twin girls and they passed their exams and will be attending Merle Grove High in September.

"I hope that they will grow up to be big in life somebody special," Marvette said.

Marvette noted that on her father's side there is a set of twins but unfortunately both the boy and girl died.

During the interview, Marie who is an expectant mother held her tummy and said softy that she hopes she will have twins too.

Marvette said although Marie is miserable at times she still loves her. "We are big women now and we still stick to each other we won't be apart not until we die," Marvette declared.
