( l - r ) Wayne Marshall and Fantan Mojah
TodayTHE STAR continues one of its latest features, a weekly review of new songs. Three musical minds with different tastes will analyse each song and will grade it on vocal ability, lyrics, musical arrangement and appeal. Songs that make the grade will be given our stamp of approval, "Mus Buss". For those songs that fail, well, they will be dumped under the "Caan Buss" heading.
The three reviewers welcome feedback from the artistes and the public about the column. Send your comments to bussdem@hot mail.com, or if you are an artiste wishing your song to be reviewed, send the CD to:

Mus/Buss Caan Buss, will this week take a look at a rhythm CD entitled Street Swing which features various artistes.
Queen: This is a roots, rock rhythm with a lot of potential, nuff big name artistes and good tunes help fi give it a vibe.
TAE: True ting, da rhythm yah is more of a meditative rhythm, the tempo not too fast or slow, moderate, just right to build a real roots, rocking vibe.
xXx: Aaaaamm, mi nah really feel di rhythm
Queen: Suh how yuh like some'n deh song
xXx: I like some of the songs on the rhythm, but like when dem have di juggling an play most of the songs on the rhythm, mi jus caan si miself a listen five, six, song pon da rhythm yah.
Queen: Well, in a sense I agree. There are songs on it that are good but I don't know about sitting and listening to all the songs on the rhythm.
TAE: Word, word! A rhythm weh a guh mek it big tends to have a number of hit songs on the one rhythm, but mi cyan really si dat happening for this rhythm, despite the whole heap a big names that are on it.
xXx: Yea man, unnuh agree wid mi this time, because usually uno a fight mi out seh mi too harsh, but you have seen the light. Da one yah nah swing inna di street.
Queen: Da rhythm yah more suit a early morning medi. I jus see it being played on one of those early morning programmes, an not even di whole a it, jus about two songs or so.
TAE: Yow, one an two tune can mek it from dah rhythm yah still, Marshall, T.O.K, di Sizzla nuh bad, the Gyptian done a play pon radio and the Fantan a gwaan good, but for the rhythm in general, I don't think it will fly.
xXx: Di song dem weh mi like pon it, Gyptian 'If you Really Love Me' di Fanton Mojah one From the Very First Time and the Wayne Marshall one I'll be Aiming High. Dat's about it. Apart from dem deh, di riddim nuh too hot or maybe a di half dead way di res a people dem do dem song. I don't think di riddim itself can buss, but some a di song dem like weh mi list can gwaan.
Queen: I like the Marshall, Sizzla, Norris Man and Fantan Mojah tune dem. These have potential. The songs these artistes have done prove that a good song can push a riddim. It is definitely the songs on the riddim that are pushing it, not the riddim itself. At the same time, it will be going somewhere, so it 'Mus Buss'.
