Carpenter faces murder, shooting charges

Stephanie Elliot, STAFF REPORTER

Clarendon

Twenty-four-year-old Dwayne Reid, a carpenter from Nelson Street, May Pen, Clarendon, is booked to appear in the May Pen Resident Magistrate's Court today, to answer to the murder of 24-year-old Troy Powell of Rhules Pen, Palmer's Cross in the parish.

He will also face the charge of shooting with intent after he was accused of reportedly firing shots at police officers who pursued him after Powell was shot and killed.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Michael Norman of the Clarendon Homicide Unit, says that the murder suspect was pointed out in an identification parade on September 14, 2006.

Powell was shot and killed some time in May of this year while standing at a plaza on Bromanty Street in May Pen.

Reid was arrested on August 21, 2006, after a vehicle in which he was travelling, was intercepted by the Clarendon police on Nelson Street. He was found in possession of a firearm and several rounds of ammunition.
