Goals by Tremayne Stewart and Kevin Frater carried Eltham High to a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Meadowbrook in their Manning Cup encounter yesterday.

It was the visiting team which took the lead in the fifth minute. Rachin Stewart went past a wall of defenders and silenced the Eltham crowd with a right foot shot which gave Meadowbrook a 1-0 lead.

Captain Tremayne Stewart pulled Eltham level in the 33rd minute and the St. Catherine-based school gradually took charge of the match. At half time the teams were locked at 1-1.

On the resumption both teams tried to gain the momentum. Eltham got the clincher in the 73rd minute when substitute Frater scored from a corner.

William Lyon, coach of Meadow-brook, said Eltham played better. "We played the first 20 minutes very well but we then gave up the middle and it cost us the game".

Gregory Allen of Eltham had high praise for his players. "We thought it was a hard-fought game, however, through the efforts of Frater, Stewart and company, we played the better football and we won the game. We are thankful."

Of note the match started almost 30 minutes late as the referee took the field shortly before 4 p.m. when the match should have started 3:30.
