British entertainment company 57 Productions launched a new website Tuesday which allows users to download and listen to poetry on their MP3 players and iPods.
The modern poetry site, called iPoems, is available to the public today, 57 Productions spokesman Philip Abraham said.
About 1,000 readings from poetry written in English are available for 50 pence (US$0.95, JA$62.70) per audio poem and £1 (about US$1.8, JA$124.12) per video poem. The company offers a free one month trial membership, and after, subscriptions are £10 (US$18, JA$1188.00) per year.
One featured artist is Jean 'Binta' Breeze who performs a Caribbean version of Geoffrey Chaucer's 'Wife of Bath' tale.
At a London theatre, artists, promoters and guests had planned to celebrate the launch yesterday evening, sipping champagne and listening to poets perform.
