The lead story in Wed-nesday's STAR spoke about the latest scam involving a biker crew who crash into seemingly 'soft' motorists' vehicles and then demand money from them.
According to the story, the police have received reports of four cases since the start of the year and are warning motorists to report the cases and to not allow themselves to be intimidated.
It is interesting that people can come up with such innovative scams. In spite of the danger these bikers are placing themselves in, they prefer to take these dangerous risks and demand money from people using trickery.
It is hard to believe that a lack of employment drove them to become involved in these activities as it certainly takes a lot of brain power and time to develop these scams. These culprits even exhibit signs of entrepreneurship. They have ideas, they are willing to take risks and have the determination to follow through.
While sending the men to jail is the immediate solution, the Government should possibly consider implementing a system which allows criminals such as these to channel their energies in more positive areas.
When they are incarcerated provide them with training and projects that will allow them to develop positive ideas and execute them. This would go a far way in turning the seemingly useless into the useful.
This is obviously something that the Government needs to look into and encourage as it can be quite beneficial to the development of the country.
