Point Hill, St. Catherine, labourer Sheldon Bent, 23, who is charged in connection with the murder of police constable Richard Taylor, appeared in the Spanish Town RM Court on a charge of carnal abuse on Tuesday.
The police told the court that this charge arose while they were investigating the lawman's disappearance a month ago. They claimed that after going to Bent's house in Point Hill they found a 14-year-old girl in his bed. She was awaked by the lawmen and allegedly told them that she is intimately involved with Mr. Bent.
They added that the charge of carnal abuse was placed against him after his capture in St. Mary by the police.
When Bent appeared in court, his lawyer Samuel Smith, told the court that since his client has another charge he will not make a formal bail application. Bent was subsequently remanded to reappear next Tuesday, when he, along with his cousin Andre Bent, are to answer to the murder charge also.
Taylor was stationed at the Special Anti Crime Task Force Unit at the time of his death.
