License to kill

Once again as is often expected in the holiday period, THE STAR reported that there was a motor vehicle accident.

According to the story, five people were killed in the accident which occurred while a driver of one of the vehicles was overtaking a line of traffic. Three persons were also injured in the crash.

Another accident also mentioned in the story noted that one person died and two persons were injured. In that incident the driver lost control of the vehicle which overturned.

It is unfortunate that six persons had to be killed under these circumstances that could have been prevented had someone taken greater caution or care.

Drivers need to recognise the responsibility they are given when they are entrusted with a license to drive a motor vehicle. Cautious driving is one of the key things that need to be practised by drivers to ensure that their passengers and themselves arrive at their destination alive.

Passengers too have a responsibility when travelling in a motor vehicle to ensure as much as possible that the driver does not drive carelessly with their lives. If the driver is speeding, ask him to slow down. If you are uncomfortable with the general manner in which the driver is driving ask him/her to do better, and when possible find alternative transportation.

Driving is convenient and fun, but it is also a serious thing. Being careful when doing it can mean the difference between protecting your life and those of others who also use the roads.
