West Indies confident, says Bravo

Dwayne Bravo - file

AHMEDABAD, India (CMC)

West Indies allrounder Dwayne Bravo is entering tomorrow's crucial ICC Champions Trophy match against India high on confidence.

Speaking with the media yesterday afternoon after the West Indies' latest practice session, Bravo said the Caribbean side's confidence is boosted by their recent record of five wins in the last seven one-day International (ODI) matches against India.

"We have been on top of them and I think that is something that could be playing on their minds," Bravo said. "The guys believe in themselves and we're all looking forward to this contest," added the 23-year-old Trinidadian allrounder.

West Indies, the reigning Champions Trophy title-holders, whipped the Indians 4-1 in the Caribbean earlier this year and shared two matches against them in the recent DLF Cup in Malaysia.

Stronger at home

But Bravo believes West Indies must execute well since the Indians could be stronger at home.

"This is a different tournament, different conditions and the Indians are very comfortable playing at home so we know it is a different India team that we are coming up against. We have to do the basics and stick to our game plan," he said.

Bravo spoke confidently about his readiness and his prospects of recapturing top form with the bat. He has been out of touch in recent weeks but legendary West Indies captain Clive Lloyd is now with the team and Bravo believes his presence has helped him.

"His knowledge has helped me a lot and I am feeling much better now going into the nets and I'm looking forward to the opportunity to bat (in the game) again," Bravo said of Lloyd's impact on him.

"My confidence was down battingwise coming into this series and I needed someone by my side to ensure that I stick it out and get back my confidence, to get my feet moving properly and my balance stable," Bravo added.

S Africa rebound

South Africa rebounded from their first match loss to whip fancied Sri Lanka by 78 runs in their Group B ICC Champions Trophy match at Sardar Patel (Gujarat) Stadium yesterday.

Using a very strong bowling performance, the South Africans ripped out the Sri Lankans for just 141 in 39.1 overs after they had posted 219 for nine off 50 overs.

The win enhanced the South Africans' semi-final hopes after they had been beaten by 87 runs last Monday.

Mark Boucher hit 29 and Man-of-the-Match Shaun Pollock smashed a 17-ball 21 near the end to help push the total beyond the 200-mark.
