A man was shot and killed on Monday by a police officer, allegedly during a quarrel about petrol.
The matter, which is now being probed by the Bureau of Special Investigation (BSI), is said to have turned deadly after the man pulled a knife on a plain clothes police officer.
Allegations are about 7:30 p.m., the officer who is attached to the Denham Town police station, was pumping gas into his private vehicle, at an Esso service station along Half-Way Tree road. While at the pump, it is alleged that the man identified only as 'Dave,' a conductor of an Olympic Garden address, became boisterous and ordered the man to move away from the pump, because he was taking too long.
An argument ensued, wherein it is alleged that 'Dave' pulled a ratchet knife from his shirt pocket and attacked the police. The officer is said to have retaliated by firing a single shot at the assailant, hitting him beneath the left breast. He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The BSI will take over from the Cross Roads police, in investigating the matter.
