George Henry - Reverend Winston Blake.BY GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer
SPALDINGS, CLARENDON:
Minister Winston 'King Author' Blake hails from the community of Coffee Piece in north-west Clarendon. He has been walking with God since accepting Him as his Lord and Saviour in 1990.
Though he likes to break the word of God to those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, Blake who is a household name in local gospel music, told THE STAR that his calling is really to sing sinners out of the hands of Satan.
He says many will not come to know Christ just by hearing the spoken word, and so he thinks his strategy has proven to be effective.
The past student of Spaldings Comprehensive High School (now Spaldings High School) says, "This gift was given to me by the Lord from a very tender age. Just going to Sunday school in my early childhood days, singing was one of the things that my Sunday school teacher recognised in me."
As time progressed, Author pointed out that his ministry grew and he started to appear at several church concerts. He added that his experience even got better and he became so skilful that he could not keep the gift given to him by God to himself, and so he started to train the young people at his church.
big artistes
The Sunday school teacher explained that under the leadership of Reverend Maurice Mundle, the pastor for the Coffee Piece Church of God, he was able to get several persons to learn how to play instruments to complement their own ministry, while they sought to bring others to Christ, and they too became effective in the work of God.
It was while in tenth Grade that he decided that he was going to take his deejay work seriously and so he migrated to Kingston.
He lived with his aunt whose husband was a welder who worked for DJ Ninja Man, and so a link was made with the well known DJ.
Author said he met several big artistes including Luciano, but after a while the background he had in the church did not allow him to satisfy his appetite with the kind of deejay work that he wanted to do.
He then returned to Clarendon in 1990 and it was then that he gave his life to the Lord and started his musical ministry for God.
He got into the Sunshine Gospel Band, playing and singing at concerts and entered the JCDC Gospel Festival in 1993. He was not successful in his attempt however.
He continued to write gospel songs, and perform locally until he joined the Grace Thrillers. He worked with them for six months, before he decided to go to England in 1997.
While there, he formed a group called 'Warriors for Christ' and started to write and record songs.
His first album entitled Preparation Time together was later released.
Minister Blake wants Jamaicans to listen to the spoken and the singing word of God, turn from sin, live peacefully and love one another, so that this island can go back to the days when everyone respected each other.
