Both Clarendon teams - last year's beaten finalists Glenmuir and Clarendon College (CC) - face easy opportunities tomorrow at their favourite hunting ground to make the automatic cut into the semi-final round of the daCosta Cup.
As part of a Brancout double-header, Glenmuir with two wins so far in Group Five, face an unpredictable Bog Walk team at 1:00 p.m. while at 3:00 p.m., their form parishmates Clarendon are up against a much touted Holmwood team that has once again failed to impress.
St. Elizabeth Technical will also host a double-header, which provides two teams with outside chances of making the semi-final cut. At 1:00 p.m. STETHS, with the e good fortune of back to back matches on home turf, need to win against DeCarteret who are already eliminated. At 3:00 p.m., Manchester High who clawed their way back into contention after creating a huge 2-0 upset over Denbigh at Brooks Park at the weekend, face Munro who have no chance.
A draw for both Clarendon teams would help them reach an unassailable seven points., but against opponents whose chances ended last Saturday, goalscoring should be easy even if they decide to rest their main starters.
Of the two, only Clarendon cannot afford to be complacent, as STETHS whom they defeated 3-1, inflicted the same result on Holmwood and therefore can slip through providing Holmwood can come up with an upset. Even then, STETHS would have to keep a clean sheet while scoring at least three goals.
Group Three could prove interesting. Although Spaldings who beat Manchester 3-0 before drawing 2-2 with Munro lead the group with four points, a draw with second-place Denbigh would effectively eliminate both schools, leaving the door open for Manchester to slip through with any kind of win against Munro.
Manchester High placed the cats among the pigeons when a first half penalty from Damion Mullings, and a runaway second half strike by Gregg Robinson pushed them to victory over a Denbigh team which had beaten Munro 2-0.
