Portmore labourer Sean Allen, 30, accused of collecting thousands of U.S. dollars from his girlfriend to purchase a car, found himself in double trouble as the police told the court that the Organised Crime Division wants Allen for questioning.
When Allen appeared before Resident Magistrate Sharon George in the Spanish Town RM Court, he told the court that he did collect the money from his girlfriend sometime in July, and he did not purchase the car that he had promised to buy.
The court heard that the girlfriend had been asking Allen to return the money and when this was not forthcoming, she made a report to the police. Following investigations Mr. Allen was taken into custody and charged with fraudulent conversion.
In court, the RM enquired of Allen when he would be paying back the money. After giving several excuses, Allen eventually stated that he is going to sell property to repay the complainant.
The girlfriend told the court that some money should have been paid already.
The RM extended Allen's bail until December 19. however, the investigating officer told the court that Allen is wanted for questioning in other fraud cases and as such, he would be taken into custody. He was subsequently taken to jail.
