Gunmen attack Brite Lite again!

By: Fabian Ledgister, Staff Reporter

Following Sunday morning's assault by heavily-armed gunmen, the Brite Lite Funeral home again came under fire yesterday, this time leaving one man nursing gunshot wounds.

This latest incident occurred just outside the funeral services and supplies business, owned by prominent funeral coordinator, Tommy Thompson, where four armed men opened fire on a vehicle with persons who had gone to transact business at the Funeral Home.

Opened fire

Reports are that at about 11:45 a.m., four armed men travelling in a white Toyota Corolla car drove up beside the Black 2002 Honda CRV (SUV) parked along Dillion Avenue (Kingston 5), in the vicinity of Brite Lite Funeral Services and opened a barrage of gunfire on their intended target.

The driver sustained gunshot wounds to the left hand and lower back, while the other three occupants, his wife, aunt, and cousin, escaped without any injury. The driver was able to escape the attack, and drove himself to hospital where he was admitted in stable condition. One 9mm spent shell, one .45 spent shell, two warheads, and one bullet fragment were recovered from the scene.

"Investigations are still sketchy, as the gunshot victim is still recovering, and the other family members are traumatised. We are asking anyone with information that can assist investigations to call the Half-Way Tree CIB at 926-2551, or 119," said an officer from the HWT CIB

The first shooting incident at the funeral home occurred about 4:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, where the front entrance was fired upon. No one was injured in that incident. Thompson could not be contacted, as he has been overseas since the onslaught began.
