Waterhouse look to follow Harbour View lead

Haiti's Baltimore Sportif arrived in the island last night for today's start of Caribbean Football Union Group 'B' Club Championships at the Waterhouse Mini-Stadium.

Waterhouse will be playing against the Haitians at 6:00 p.m. The other team in the group is Curaçao's Deportiva Banda Abou.

While the Jamaicans are expected to be the best in the three-team group, the Haitians have always proven dangerous.

Waterhouse coach Barrington Gaynor knows what to expect from them though, and says his team has the requisite tools to deal with it.

"I noticed they (Haitians) move the ball very well and play one touch passes, they never play the long ball, so I'm expecting that," said Gaynor.

"We are very good defensively and we are aggressive so we think we can counter that," Gaynor added.

Waterhouse have a Jamaican example they will be hard pressed to follow after Harbour View qualified for the second phase from Group 'A' earlier this week.

Hosting the group, Harbour View advanced after winning three games from as many starts.

However, Gaynor says his team didn't need Harbour View's presence in the final four to understand the feat's importance.

"I don't think there is any more pressure than before because we always wanted to make it to the semi-final of the competition so there is no more pressure," said Gaynor, who thinks the competition, though costly, is very important.

"This is very, very important. This is an international competition. This is like a champions of champions competition and we are champions and need to prove that," Gaynor told Star Sports.

Waterhouse will have a strong squad going into the game with all the big names - Kevin Lamey, Demar Phillips, Irvino English, Marco McDonald, Desmond Breakenridge and Maurice Evans - that have made them successful available.

One name that will be missing though is Vincent Earle, who is recovering from foot surgery.

Despite the absence, Gaynor says his team will do well.

"We have been playing without him for the last two weeks. There are competent replacements even though each player brings a different thing to the table," said Gaynor.

Deportiva Banda Abou will arrive in Jamaica tomorrow for a game against Sportif on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. before they face Waterhouse on Tuesday.
