Beenie leaves Shocking Vibes

Teino Evans, Staff Reporter

The doctor has left the building.

Popular deejay Beenie Man says that as of January 1, 2007, he will no longer be a member of his management and booking company, Shocking Vibes Limited.

The deejay claims that Shocking Vibes Limited will not be responsible for him as an artiste as he is moving on to do his own work with his label, Mafia House. He says that Shocking Vibes will no longer be doing bookings for him, nor will they be responsible for managing him as an artiste.

His decision to leave, Beenie says, was because he and the Shocking Vibes management were not seeing eye to eye where goals were concerned.

"Is not a matter of reason you become a man now, you decide fi tek life on yuh own, yuh have odda artiste and ting a deal wid an at Shocking Vibes, Patrick Roberts as management, is more thinking about football and politics. Football and politics work wid who a deal wid football and politics, me a deal wid music," Beenie said.

He continued, "If you hire a company to manage you they suppose to manage you. certain things that Shocking Vibes should be doing, I end up doing myself.

"Over the past years, I have to actually help myself out because management don't understand anything about street credibility and how far that can carry you as an artiste.

"You also have people weh yuh waan fi travel wid and the company nuh find them important fi a travel wid yuh an Shocking Vibes nah deal wid dat. dem a deal wid fi dem friend an who dem know an mi nuh deh pon dat."

Still CEO

Beenie, however, maintained that he is "... still the CEO and owner of Shocking Vibes Production Limited," and will still be involved in the business aspect of the company. But as far as booking him goes, Mafia House will be solely responsible.

"Anybody need me for booking, you can contact Mafia House at 876-480-9393 or 876-758-4855. But every show weh Shocking Vibes book we are honouring. I have shown my loyalty for 22 years. Clyde McKenzie will still be my adviser and any legal ting, contract to be signed, him a guh deal wid it."

Roberts' no comment

However, when THE STAR contacted Patrick Roberts of Shocking Vibes Limited, he was not willing to comment at any length on the issue as he said, "I don't know nothing about that, I have not spoken to him (Beenie Man) regarding that."

Even though Roberts admitted that Beenie Man was the main artiste at Shocking Vibes, he played down the possible effect that his departure would have on the company.

"Of course, but we still have acts here, Tanto Metro and Devonte, Kirk, but I don't want to comment. my comment is that I'm busy campaigning," Roberts said.
