Red Cross youth arm puts on Pre-Christmas treat

By Elgin Taylor, STAR Writer

Lluidas Vale, St. Catherine

The Youth arm of the Linstead Red Cross put on a Pre-Christmas treat for some 200 children in the town on Saturday.

The Youth Parish Chairman, Devon Smith explained to The Star that his organisation, the Linstead Red Cross area group, brings cheer to the children not only at Christmas time but on a quarterly basis. He further noted that the St. Dominic link and the Linstead Red Cross Cadet link were also a part of the undertaking. He said the Red Cross deemed it a pleasure to be able to assist the kids.

Among those treated were Dorrel Edwards and Abigail Bennett, a first former at Calabar High School and a sixth grader at Crescent Primary respectively.

Edwards described the occasion as "a wonderful thing for the kids," while Bennett said it served as a means of "helping to help people get something to eat and to enjoy themselves."

The children, age 9-15 were given toys, sweets, cakes, ice-cream and sandwiches.
