Spanish Town
A National Water Commis-sion driver who failed to give his documents to the police will know his fate March 15 next year, when he returns to the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court to answer to several charges, including assaulting a police officer, threatening a crown witness and resisting arrest.
The court learnt that Patrick Williams was seen along Wellington Street, Spanish Town on December 5, about midday, driving a NWC vehicle. He was stopped by the police, who observed that the licence on the vehicle had expired. He was asked for the documents for the vehicle and he told the police that he didn't have any. When the lawmen requested his drivers licence, he added that he did not have any and that, "a so the government business go".
The officer said that he attempted to arrest Williams, who became boisterous and resisted. He was subsequently taken to the Spanish Town Police Station, where he was slapped with the charges.
In court on Tuesday, attorney-at-law Dwayne Forbes, who is representing the accused, said that it was strange that Williams would have behaved in such a manner, as the utility company for which he works, demands the highest professional standards from its employees and that it was while Williams was walking out of the station that the charges were laid against him, after he made enquiry of a traffic ticket that was served on him.
The lawyer added that it is the custom of the NWC, that the original documents for the vehicle be kept at its head office in Kingston. However, Williams admitted to the court that he was not wearing an ID nor did he have any document in the vehicle.
Having heard this the RM extended his bail after ordering that he be finger printed for threatening a police officer during his arrest.
