It seems criminals have become business people with the latest report that they have been renting guns to other criminals.
The lead story in last Friday's WEEKEND STAR stated that the thriving trade was uncovered in Spanish Town and Portmore. The article quoted a gang member as saying they rented the guns to men who wanted to rob other people, however, the men must commit these robberies outside of their communities.
This is an interesting fact as these men have no qualms about criminalising other people's communities as long as it is not their own. This practice obviously fuels the crime rate, as people will hide the wrongs of the men from their community because those committing the wrongs keep them safe.
The article also highlights the brilliant minds that are going to waste doing criminal acts. What these men are operating is a thriving business and it takes a certain knowledge and know-how to do this. However, instead of using this knowledge to operate a legal business, these men have allowed their minds to be used for bad reasons.
Police need to act fast because what this practice could create is a situation where people could commit crimes and get away because the weapon cannot be tied to the true offender.
The Government also needs to step in and find a means to channel these criminal energies into good. These men have talent and while they are not wasting it, it needs to be harnessed and used more positively.
