More bloodshed in August Town

BY Fabian Ledgister, Staff Reporter

Neither a massive raid by the police on Saturday, nor a peace meeting later that day, could stop the bloodshed in August Town, as another person was killed, yesterday.

Dead is Omeco Henclewood, 25, a labourer of Goldsmith Villas, who is also known as 'Fire'.

Reports are that at about 10:30 a.m., Henclewood was walking along a roadway in the area, when explosions were heard. The police were summoned, and the body was found lying in the roadway, suffering from gunshot and ice-pick wounds. The body was removed to the morgue for post-mortem examination.

Heavy gunfire

This comes just three days after a joint police/military raid was conducted in Goldsmith Villas, August Town. Police say about 4 a.m. on Saturday, the team was in the process of a special operation, when upon reaching an abandoned house in the Goldsmith Villas area, they were met with heavy gunfire.

The team returned fire, in the direction of the abandoned house, and a shoot-out between the lawmen and gunmen ensued. After the melee subsided, a search of the area was conducted, and two men were found in nearby bushes suffering from gunshot wounds.

They were taken to the University Hospital of the West Indies, where one was pronounced dead, and the other admitted in serious condition.

The dead man has been identified as Carlos 'X-Man' McLaren, 22, a labourer of Goldsmith Villas. He was found suffering from gunshot wounds to the left and right side of his chest, while clutching unto a MID sniper rifle, serial number 128189, with a magazine containing sixteen 7.62 cartridges. A pink and black pouch containing seventy 7.62 cartridges was also found on his person.

Glock found

The second man was identified as Oneil Daley, 25, a labourer of Goldsmith Villas who is also known as 'Fire' and 'Clutch-Boy'. He was found suffering from gunshot wounds to the left forearm, and left side of the chest. A Glock 17 9mm pistol, serial number HME738, was also found on his person, along with six 9mm cartridges.

A further search of the area, revealed two other firearms, a Smith and Wesson .40 pistol, serial number PHA8153, with a magazine containing eight .40 rounds, and a Berrettor 9mm pistol, serial number A27983M, with a magazine containing nine 9mm rounds. A black plastic bag containing nine .40 rounds, and two 9mm rounds was also found.

Following the raid, a peace meeting was held in the Goldsmith Villas area, to attempt to pacify warring factions, Jungle 12 (12 August Town Road), and Goldsmith Villas. The August Town police will be investigating this latest murder.
