Man gets 100 hours for stealing cheese

A 25-year-old man who pleaded guilty to stealing two tins of cheese from a grocery store in Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth was sentenced to 100 hours of community service when he appeared in the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate's Court last Thursday.

Leroy Barrett a pimento farmer of Burnt Savannah district, St. Elizabeth who was charged with shop lifting begged Resident Magistrate Stanley Clarke for a chance.

"Broke me did broke sah, me didn't have any money," he told the court.

Court records are that on December 19, Barrett went to Lincars Mini Mart at Santa Cruz Plaza and stole two tins of cheese valued at $612.00. He was held and later arrested and charged.
