Twins no bundle of joy for mother

To most mothers, having twins means double the fun and double the joy. To Claudette Johnson, however, having twins means her expenses have been doubled and she now has to work twice as hard to provide for her family.

So far, Johnson is finding it very hard and says her on and off job as a domestic helper does not provide enough money to care for her children. In addition to the pair of twins, she also has a daughter that will soon be five. She told the STAR that both fathers of her children abandoned her when she was pregnant, leaving her to fend for herself.

She said, "I live alone and I don't have anyone to help me. I don't know where the father dem deh, from mi pregnant dem abandon me." She added that she sometimes works one or two days in a week, but says she only earns a meagre $1000 a day. From this paltry sum, she must pay rent, feed and clothe her children and send her 4-year-old to school. "Some time I have to owe dem [landlord], because some time it jus bank up on me. I jus really have it hard", she said.

Johnson also told the STAR that her children are in need of clothes and she is appealing to anyone who can assist her in this regard. She is also seeking a job and says she is willing to do domestic jobs like cleaning, washing, ironing and cooking. She also has her eyes set on being an entrepreneur and told the STAR that if she could get help to purchase a refrigerator, she would sell drinks and snacks from her home. She pleaded, "I jus beggin some assistance. I don't have nobody to help me and I jus beggin some help for di kids dem and myself."

Persons wishing to help Miss Johnson, can call her at 468 - 5762.
