Bag snatcher gets six months

spanish town, st. catherine

A 25-year-old man who grabbed a woman's bag on a minibus and was held by the police while trying to escape, was sentenced to six months when he appeared in the Spanish Town RM. Court on Tuesday.

Bonitto Wisdom who is of a Central Village, St. Catherine address pleaded guilty to simple larceny when he appeared before R.M. Lorna Errar Gayle. The court was told that on Friday, January 2 about 1:30 p.m., Wisdom, was a passenger on a coaster bus when on reaching Central Village, he grabbed on to a female passenger's bag and jumped off the bus with it. A policeman who was a passenger, chased and held him. He was taken to the nearby Central Village police station. Constable Andre Smith charged him for the offence.

When he appeared, he told R.M. Lorna Errar Gayle that he did not want to steal the bag, but he became hungry and his hand jumped on to the bag and that he was sorry for his actions.

Having heard his story, R.M. Errar Gayle told him she would give him time to reflect on how sorry he was. He was subsequently sentenced.
