Cabbie's costly bribe

spanish town

Dean Anglin, a taxi driver from Pleasant Hill near Boy Walk, St. Catherine, was fined $20,000 or six months after he pleaded guilty to offering a $1,000 bribe to a policeman in December last year, for a traffic violation.

Anglin, 46 years old, appeared in the Linstead RM Court on January 10 after he was charged by the police in December.

The facts are that at about 4:30 p.m., the police were doing traffic reinforcement duty along the Bog Walk gorge when Anglin overtook a line of traffic on the continuous white line.

He was stopped and when he presented the car documents he gave the police officer a $1,000 bill and said "Officer mek wi dun dis wid dis nuh". He was sub-sequently charged.

The policeman was commended for his good action in bringing Anglin to justice.
